Meta was a company that developed and sold augmented reality headsets including the Meta 1 and Meta 2.

Its founder is Steve Mann.[1] Its co-founder and CEO is Meron Gribetz.

Meta is not to be confused with Meta Platforms, AKA facebook, or Meta materials.

It also advertised the Meta Pro.

Meta's product's original name is "SpaceGlasses".[2]

Founding[edit]

Steve Mann created the first Meta augmented reality eyeglasses in Toronto.[1] Afterwards, the company Meta was founded.

The Meta logo, hand-drawn in light, is based on a Mann's design, using abakography.[1]

Meta is a Silicon Valley company known for advertising augmented reality products. The company was founded by Meron Gribetz, who was at the time studying neuroscience and computer science at Columbia University under Steven Feiner.[3]

  • On May 17, 2013, Meta launched a crowdfunded Kickstarter campaign.[4]
  • In the Fall of 2013, Feiner joined as Lead Advisor.[5]
  • In the year +2014, Meta won best heads-up display award for the Meta Pro at the Consumer Electronics Show.[6]
  • In January 2015, Meta announced a $23 million Series A round.[7]
  • On February 17, 2016, Meta unveiled their second-generation product at TED.[8]
  • On June 13, 2016, Meta announced they had raised another $50M in venture funding.[9]
