A free form display is a display that can generate light from an arbitrary position that is going in an arbitrary direction.

It can generate rays of light with predetermined direction from each point in a set of points in an arbitrarily shaped structure.

It can be done using a fiber optic tip that is rotated.

It can be approximated using rasterization, where each point has a pinwheel spinny thing that sends out light on a spiral in a semisphere sequentially.

If at 100hz of frame input, it needs a fast optical switching mechanism.

steerable beams.

Composition[edit]

A steerable beam or an effectual steerable beam is the primary component of a free-form display.
