A combiner is an optical component that combines two sources of light or image. For example, a small piece of glass in front of an eye that reflects light from a display source.
A reflector like that used in the Project North Star is a type of combiner.
Optical-see through waveguides are combiners. They combine optically the outside world with the electronically rendered light.
Combiners can use HOEs to reflect light in a way where the angle of incidence does not equal the angle of reflection.[1]
