The Sword of Damocles is a positional tracker made as a part of Ivan Sutherland's head mounted display system.[1] It is mechanical can be ceiling mounted.
It was a mechanical head position measuring system constituted by an extendable tube with a universal joint at the top.[2]
It was the backup tracker.[1] The primary one was an ultrasonic positioning system.
The HMD system in full is named A Head-Mounted Three-Dimensional Display.
