The PlayStation Move is a controller used with game consoles. Initially, the motion game controller was only compatible with Sony PlayStation 3; this was later extended to Sony PS4 and then to PlayStation VR.

PlayStation Move functions similar to Microsoft’s Kinect and Nintendo’s Wii. The controller detects the physical movement of the player and uses the motion as input in the game. The gadget uses PlayStation Camera or Eye to detect the position and the internal sensors inside the controller to track the movements.

PlayStation Move and PlayStation VR[edit]

Move motion controller and PlayStation VR combine to provide true in the virtual world experience for the players.

The experience that players get from PlayStation Move as compared to that of any other button controller is poles apart. Move ensures players get more intuitive, exciting, and realistic gaming experience while playing games that are VR compatible.

Every movement that the player makes, either fast or subtle, will be detected, tracked, and processed, by the PlayStation Camera, multi-colored orbs, and advanced sensors. Nothing will be missed.

PlayStation Move makes the user feel part of the game. The easily reachable buttons and the accurate motion tracking capability of the Move controller will immerse the user into the game. The user, in a jiffy, becomes a virtual cook preparing mouthwatering recipes or transforms into a warrior wielding a sword.

The Key Features of PlayStation Move for VR[edit]

  • Superior motion sensing capability and light tracking technology
  • Easily reachable face and trigger buttons
  • Rechargeable battery
  • One full charge gives 10 hours of playtime
  • Immersive vibration feedback
  • The package includes two Move controllers with two mini-USB cables for charging

Hardware[edit]

The PlayStation Move motion controller is in the shape of a short stick with a spherical orb at the top end. On the face of the stick, there is an oblong Move button, which is encircled by four action buttons. Each button is marked with different signs such as Cross, Circle, Triangle, and Square. Under these buttons, the PlayStation buttons can be found. On either side of Move are the Start and Select buttons. An analog trigger is found on the underside. Finally, an extension port, USB port, and wrist cord are on the tail end of the controller. The PlayStation Move motion controller comes with Bluetooth and runs on a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

PlayStation Move Motion Controller[edit]

The Move motion controller uses the movement and the position of the gadget in front of the camera to communicate with the console or a virtual reality headset.

The controller has a spherical orb at the head of the device. The orb has a LED inside, which glows when the controller is put to use. The system chooses the color to distinguish the orb from the surrounding environment. The PlayStation Camera uses the color light emitting orb to mark the position of the controller.

The system uses the light emitted by the orb to determine its distance from the camera. The exact position and the distance from the camera in the three-dimensional space are determined with absolute accuracy and precision. This simple yet effective calculation technique avoids delays and ensures the player has a smooth interaction with the game.

Sensors[edit]

A 3-axis angular rate sensor, 3-axis linear accelerometer, and 2 inertial sensors inside Move track rotation and other movements of the controller. The controller also contains a magnetometer. The magnetometer is responsible for correcting the drift that’s caused by the inertial sensors. Apart from these, the controller also has a temperature sensor to detect the position and motion of the controller when the camera is not up to the task.

The PlayStation Move motion controller also uses the haptic technology (vibration-based). The orb provides visual feedback and helps track rotation and motion of the controller. It performs both functions exceedingly well.

Sony PlayStation VR Games[edit]

A list of all the current and yet-to-release games for the PlayStation’s virtual reality headset is given on this page.

Sony PlayStation Move Bundle[edit]

The PlayStation Move is available with the PlayStation Eye and a video game. Those who already own PlayStation Eye can buy a standalone controller pack.

Cost and Availability[edit]

Sony initially released PlayStation Move Controller for PS3 console. In 2016, the company expanded the compatibility of the controller to PlayStation VR. The PlayStation Move Motion Controller for virtual reality pack with two controllers is priced at around $100.
