Mixed reality is the experience of having a visual field partially taken up by a virtual environment.

In some cases, it is largely the same as augmented reality.

Mixed reality often uses camera passthrough in the obstructed area of the user's field of view.

Examples of mixed reality gadgets are the Quest Pro and the Lynx R-1.

A feature of the human perceptual system is that if the periphery sees the real world, there is a sense of balance. As long as the periphery is not covered by a headset, there is greater comfort.
