The fundus is the interior surface of the eye opposite the eye's lens. It includes the retina. The fundus can be seen in photos taken with camera flash that have the red-eye effect.

Etymology[edit]

The word fundus is Latin and means "bottom". It comes from the Proto-Indo-European root *bhudh- meaning "bottom" or "base".[1]
