An active matrix LCD is a type of liquid crystal display that has one transistor per pixel, at least. Active-matrix LCD is the most common type of LCD for high-speed products.

Active matrix LCD can be driven with an LED backlight.

Active-matrix LCD has the potential to be more power efficient than a passive LCD, because an active matrix LCD has its pixels are driven through transistors.[1]

Most useful LCDs are active-matrix.
