CREAL is a company that makes displays for augmented reality headsets. Specifically, sequential light-field displays.
Its displays are near-eye light field displays. CREAL has marketed displays as suitable for AR glasses.
CREAL had planned to make a fixed foveated display.[1]
One of CREAL's patents details the use of a 2D point light array as the light source that is lit up sequentially.[2] Each point light is a source of light such as an LED that has a pinhole mask.
CREAL's technology is influenced by the work of Andrew Maimone.
CREAL's team included engineers from Intel's smart glasses project, as well as from Magic Leap.[3]
History
CREAL used DLP, then switched to LCOS. The switch was in part because LCOS can have its driving method controlled more directly.[4] DLP's drive algorithm is closed off by Texas Instruments.[4]
