A visual cortex is a part of a human brain that can process a large amount of visual information. It can process information received from the eyes. It is located in the occipital lobe at the back of the brain.

It is part of a cerebral cortex.

The primary visual cortex is known as visual area 1 (V1).

There are other visual areas: V2, V3, V4, and V5.[1]
