The first great VR deflation was an event where the virtual reality industry collapsed. A number of companies went out of business or reorganized, including VPL and Virtuality.
It ended the consumer interest in VR for a while, but not the professional market. Eventually, the second wave of VR kicked off with the Oculus Rift.
